Congratulations Town of Embarrass on being selected as the 2007 Outstanding Conservationist of the Year!Several volunteers from the town helped restore an outside bend of the river by removing an old, unsafe pier from the edge and installing erosion control measures to stabilize it. The town is currently working with the North St. Louis SWCD in preparation to restore another portion of the streambank. Another project the town has been working on is a sustainable forestry project. The plantation project is appropriately named the “Memorial Forest” after the old Embarrass school house that use to be in its location. The Town also actively involves the area youth in different environmental education activities. Here's a list of volunteers: Linda Nelson, Christine Mackai, Roland Fowler, Dave Ferrian, Dorothy Nevala, Dave Joki, Mike Mackai, Doug Nelson, Ed Nevala, Paul Knuti, Carol Knuti, Tom Vraa, Karl Vraa, Amanda Nelson, Andy Nelson, Dan McLaughlin and Nycol Selmer. Below is a picture of Christine Mackai and Linda Nelson accepting the award. Pictured with them are Gary Rantala (SWCD Supervisor) and Wade Klingsporn (SWCD Resource Conservationist). ![]()
